About Dr Quemby
Before Medicine, I attained my first honors degree in 1994 at the well respected King’s College London in Molecular Pharmacology: the study of drugs and medicines on the body at the molecular level. It was during this undergraduate qualification that I first studied Botulinum Toxin, how it works and it potential use in medicine.
In 1996 I began studying medicine at St. Andrews University Scotland where attained a first class BSc in Medical Science and continued my clinical medicine in London at the Royal Free hospital.
I qualified as a doctor in 2001, again with MBBS(Hons): honors in medicine and surgery. In 2002 I was awarded the prestigious role of demonstrator in anatomy for a year at University College London. Here I lectured in advanced anatomy as well as preparing anatomical specimens for training in surgery.
After this intense anatomy training I applied for surgical training in London and the South west and came first in selection. I took my MRCS: Member of the Royal College of Surgeons in 2005 after having rotated through Accident and Emergency medicine, Orthopedic surgery, Maxillo-Facial surgery and Plastic surgery. It was at this point i first started to use botulinum toxin in children with cerebral palsy. After this i continued to train in Plastic surgery in Northampton and London.
It was in this latter post i was involved in treating patients from the London bombings and was particularly impressed by the anesthetists and intensive care doctors. I decided to train in emergency medicine, ITU and anesthetics as well as continue regularly operating and practicing aesthetic medicine.
Aesthetic medicine is born from my very varied experience: I have studied botulinum toxin at the molecular level in my first degree. I have an advanced anatomy knowledge having studied and lectured in anatomy at the postgraduate level. Furthermore i have pursued a career in Maxillo-Facial & Plastic surgery not to mention having used Botulinum toxin since 2003. My anesthetic background has also helped in aesthetic medicine with the advanced study of local aesthetics and performing facial nerve blocks sometimes required for facial fillers.
